Is this my new favourite Riley Sager? Quite possibly. It was just so good. I had really high expectations for it because I always enjoy his books and I’m so happy that this one didn’t disappoint me. The writing was amazing - I loved the current day chapters and the ones from the day Billy vanished from the different characters POVs. The two timelines worked well together and I loved the way it built up to the big reveals and the answers to what happened to Billy. It was definitely tense and creepy at times. I liked the supernatural elements and all of the stuff about ghosts/spirits. I also loved the settings and tropes; a closed neighbourhood, the strange Hawthorne Institute, the small selection of characters and all their secrets. The characters were actually really well written in my opinion. I loved Ethan and enjoyed him as a main character. All of the other characters were diverse and interesting in their own ways. Honestly, I suspected almost every character at some point. The final reveal surprised me and I actually really liked it. It was a lot simpler than I was expecting but I think that worked for this story
