After the family left Quietus they ended up in Cardenia where they got to put down some roots. It was important to Marko and Alana that Hazel has had some normal childhood experiences. Thanks to Heist in the previous book, Alana could get a job and provide for her family. However, Marko and Alana's relationship is a bit strained, and they are having trouble getting back on track. I think this one got the messiest since all of the main storylines were now going down different paths. It wasn't focused on hunting down this family like it was in the first two books.
