The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks

5.0

As most Nicholas Sparks books do, I was feeling very emotional by the time I reached the last page of the book.

The Longest Ride threw me right into the story of Ira, an old man who became a victim in a horrific car accident and became inevitably stuck inside his vehicle. At first, I thought that he was the main protagonist of the book and that it was another go-back-in-time story similar to that of The Notebook which I had only read a few weeks before. To my surprise, the next chapter was about two entirely different people--Sophia and Luke--who had no relations to Ira, whatsoever.

The book revolves around the lives of Ira, Sophia, and Luke. Ira, a widower who knows he will die alone; Sophia, an art major student who is finding a difficult time finding herself after a messy breakup; and Luke, a struggling rodeo cowboy with a secret that could kill him in the end. In alternating chapters, Ira is stuck in his vehicle, waiting for someone to notice him. Meanwhile, his dear departed wife from the past visits him, encouraging him to live while she helps Ira reminisce their life together.

Unbeknownst to the existence of Ira, the story of Sophia and Luke begin, and as they start to know each other better, the stakes in their relationship become higher. As their life and relationship progresses, they must come to accept the fact that they have to give up some things in order to move on.

And then, as if by chance, Ira, Luke, and Sophia meet in the strangest of circumstances and their lives are changed forever.

I can assure you that by the time you finish the last page of this book, you will be left feeling very emotional. If you're not, then perhaps you don't have a heart, because this book moved me. It was very sentimental and had a feel-good kind of story. The plot was strong and the characters were very easy to connect too. Sparks has a way of making his readers feel the same pain and the same emotion as his characters. This is certainly one of the best books that I've ever read by Sparks and I highly recommend it to everybody.
