Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
5.0
adored this, can't wait to re-read in a couple years time
pros:
- the writing is glorious, very lyrical and beautiful, but also tight and tense with plot
- really cared for the characters (except one), especially Kirsten and Clark and Jeevan and Miranda, loved how we dipped in and out of each of their stories.
- the imagination and originality is amazing - the comic book tie-in and the picture of this post-apocalyptic world is beautiful and hopeful, in a sad way. And the idea of the Symphony performing Shakespeare was awesome
cons:
- didn't really care for Arthur, but that's okay
- FOOD BOTHERED ME. the symphony seems to hardly mention food, to just survive on meat?? that's not possible! they'd all get scurvy! the airport is vaguely more plausible, with the crops they grow but I don't understand how the symphony's food supply was sustainable at all
- was a little bit of a shame Frank didn't get to survive, seeing a post-apocalypse with a disabled person in would have been a nice change
overall, loved it a huge amount, best book I've read in a while, 100% recommend
