The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory
4.0
It’s fun to see Jasmine Guillory’s world of characters collapse and expand at the same time! Despite a bit of less-than-desirable dialogue, I really enjoyed Theo and Maddie as individuals and also as a couple (this is a rarity for me with romances—usually one person in the couple annoys me, and as they mesh together in the narrative, I end up being frustrated by both.)
In the preceding books in the series, Guillory’s male love interests have been typically charismatic and/or sensually brooding “bro’s” with textbook sex appeal. She definitely shows more of her chops with Theo, who is a very introverted guy with a bit of what I’d guess is social anxiety. It’s a thrill to see him come alive with the people he feels comfortable around, specifically Maddie. He becomes attractive not through being a big-whig doctor, but by listening to Maddie enough to pick up on the small gestures that she’ll most appreciate. It’s a nice twist and one that makes their corniness a bit more forgivable.
Excited for the next book—I did not realize there were more in the series!!!
