Moon of the Crusted Snow is a story about how a community already isolated faces the first winter of a world without technology or electricity. The cause of the total blackout is never explained, but the cause is not the focus. This story is specifically speculating how an Anishinaabe community would handle living through an apocalypse. It's a wonderful reflection of what has been and what could be and a little bit of what could have been. If you're looking for beautiful prose, this might not be the best book for you because the writing is sparse and to the point, but I think it's a fitting style for a story about such a haunting winter.
