I picked this up not knowing it was a sequel and loved it. It was only upon writing this review I knew it was the second in a trilogy. So I would be happy to recommend this as a book anyone could pick up and enjoy without reading the rest in the series. Adrien is a deeply floored police officer, violent and a recovering addict but still has a soft spot for young girls in trouble. He also still believes in justice even if not legal justice. This is a murder mystery cop book (not a thriller as I think at times you can guys the twists), but shines in the narrative, interesting story and character development of Adrien. If you are a fan of police procedure books or the good guy winning then this is not the book for you. But I really enjoyed it and hope to add the third book to be tbr.
