I didn't have high hopes going into this series after reading the Caraval series, and much like Caraval, the first book seemed promising, but the sequels were poor in comparison. This series would have benefitted from being a duology, as very little happens in this book.
To pass the time, this story utilises the amnesia trope, so Evangeline spends most of the book trying to gain her memories back. This could have worked with a bigger cast of characters, and only having Evangeline, Apollo and Jacks dulled the story.
When they did finally get a chance to make an appearance, Lala and Chaos made the last third of the story really fun, and I enjoyed that section the most, particularly as there was a point where it felt like the author had finally decided to finish telling Evangeline's story.
