Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala

It's unpopular opinion time and I'm gutted to say that this book was not for me. At all. If you want to read a ranty and angry (slightly petty) review, please do read on! But otherwise, that one sentence pretty much sums up my feelings. The end :)
I know we can't love every book we read but wow, I didn't expect to struggle as much as I did with this! It's been on my radar for years and I've been so keen to check it out because it sounded amazing. A diverse cosy mystery prominently featuring Filipino culture and food that I grew up with, grew up loving and now miss eating every day of my adult life? A shocking murder in a small town featuring an incredibly salty ex? Not to mention that there's a sausage dog affectionately named Longganisa?! Truly say no more because I'm already seated.
Sadly for me, my experience reading this was like trying to satiate a craving by ordering my favourite dish from a new restaurant but instead of getting delivered the perfect dish, what I get is subpar cooking. I know that sounds very harsh but I think I'm also stupidly upset about how much I disliked this.
