King Lear by William Shakespeare

5.0

1st reread (26/08/21):

this is my favorite shakespeare tragedy and rereading it for class was so good!!! i finished it earlier today but we’re still talking about it before moving on to macbeth (yay)

tbh what’s not to love about this book??? it has drama, backstabbing, family and siblings dynamics, crazy dialogues and lots of fucked up people !

plus, lear’s slow descent into madness, goneril as a character and gloucester’s eyes being gouged out and all of the parallels this and other scenes have not only within the play itself but with other shakespeare’s plays aaaaa i love it so much!!!

it’s just disaster after disaster and i think it’s beautiful

“I am a very foolish fond old man, / Fourscore and upward, not an hour more or less; / And, to deal plainly, / I fear I am not in my perfect mind.”
