Bottled Goods by Sophie van Llewyn

dark medium-paced

2.0

This book was a very different style to what I was expecting, with a slice-of-life almost fragmented style and quite concise, factual writing. There were a lot of allegories in the first half or so, with ordinary détails reflecting Alina's life/situation. The second half seems to change track somewhat, grappling with harm dealt, guilt, shame. I was honestly left very confused by the ending, and feeling like perhaps I didn't grasp something, didn't read between the lines enough, and ultimately I didn't hugely enjoy this book, mainly for its style/format (flash fiction) and that is more a personal preference than any réflection on the author themselves.
