Where the Drowned Girls Go by Seanan McGuire
dark

Cora isn't doing so good these days. After being ripped away from her mermaid homeland and being claimed by the Drowned Gods during Jack's last quest, she's decided she's finally done with the nightmares and chooses to enrol in a different school, where the teachers are only known as matrons and we find another lost girl we know very well.
I actually gasped out loud when Regan's name was mentioned. I thought she might come back up again, but I didn't think it would be this soon, or in such a dire situation. This school has the vibe of conversion "therapy" camps, and only serves to tear down every student's spirit until they no longer believe in their doors any more.
I felt like something was missing from the final chapters. We got some answers about what was happening with the school, but not the lack of doors. I'm hoping this just means we're getting a more concise explanation later in the story. I'm so excited to see Regan join the gang though, as I really loved her in her book.
