Cat’s Eye was a really unique story exploring the life of Elaine and the experiences which have tormented her since childhood. We flick back and forth between her current life when she is older and the different stages of her youth, diving deep into the experienced which shaped her to become the misunderstood, divisive, complicated person she is today.

It was fascinating to explore her childhood and then see how such significant memories of her past changed or were forgotten entirely, but then equally being able to see the subconscious influences on her personality and actions. Cat’s Eye was an engrossing, real psychological deep dive into what it truly is to be human.

I find that Atwood’s writing is so compelling regardless of the topic of her story. Each character was so believable and every element of Elaine was explored in incredible depth. I’m not sure I’d return to the book but I absolutely did enjoy the experience.
