This book was a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I really enjoyed the main character, DS Cross, and the various mystery scenarios in the story. It was refreshing to see a neurodivergent character in the spotlight, and the author effectively depicted some of the challenges faced by individuals with ASD, while also highlighting the unique thinking and problem-solving abilities of neurodivergent individuals.

However, I was troubled by the recurring use of the word "odd" to describe DS Cross throughout the book. While the portrayal of his neurodivergence was commendable, the constant labelling of him as "odd" by nearly all the characters, including Cross himself, felt excessive and detracted from my overall enjoyment of the story.

Despite this, the plot was engaging, and I didn't anticipate the final twist. Overall, it was an enjoyable read, but the overemphasis on Cross's "oddness" prevented me from fully immersing myself in the story. If not for this, I would have rated it even higher.
