I picked up this book without much thought, but unexpectedly it was a great read from start to finish!

An eerie, gothic tale that was mysterious and gripping, I enjoyed it thoroughly. The characters were lovely, the writing was captivating, the plot twists and cliff hangers at the end of each chapter made this book so satisfying to read all in one sitting. I was also pleasantly satisfied with the ending and I have no other notes to complain about.

It reminds me of the movie Idle Hands, and it also has traces of the Brontë sisters. Sudden and scary ghost encounters like in Wuthering Heights, creepy bumps in the night like in Jane Eyre, but with lighthearted characters and romance plots like in Agnes Grey.
