Anita de Monte Laughs Last by Xochitl Gonzalez
4.0
Having enjoyed Olga Dies Dreaming and now reading this one, González is an always-read author for me. She somehow manages to fill her books with heavy themes like feminism, patriarchy and white supremacy, while still creating a book so easily devourable.
I wish the stories had intersected a bit earlier. It was a bit like reading two different books on and off. But I thought they did tie well together when they eventually intersected.
I also was surprised to learn the story of the artist was based on a true story. It felt odd to leave out any kind of reference -- even in an "afterward" -- of the woman this story is based on.
