“The world is a very peaceful place without you in it, and I guess you’ve ruined me for peaceful.”
Oh gosh. This book. This couple. Aahhhh.
Firstly, it took me an embarrassingly long amount of time to piece together that Gray was the lawyer in Victor’s case from Hold Me Under. Heard Gray’s name fifty thousand times and it didn’t register until the literal case was brought up. And then I fell for him even more because I loved his grumpy ass in the first book.
I loved the first book but this one hit me in a way I didn’t expect. I just adored both Jonah and Gray immediately. I love any grumpy/sunshine trope and it was so beautiful in this story. The way Gray learned how to appreciate things more because of Jonah, in a way he never could with his ex. And they both just wanted the best for each other, there was never any pettiness.
I loved the disability representation in this book as well. That Gray asked Jonah questions about preferred terms, and always worked around Jonah’s missing hand instead of expecting Jonah to make alterations. Also the dyslexia representation, which I’ve noticed a lot more in books lately. I have minor dyscalculia but I always relate to the struggles in school the characters have.
The spice in this book was very surprising. Something about nerds having the dirtiest mouths just does it for me. Both Gray and Jonah had me blushing like crazy. And Jonah calling Gray “baby” is everything to me.
Getting to see Ethan and Victor again affected me really hard, like tears streaming down my face hard. I loved their book but I wasn’t expecting my reaction. I think I’m just happy Victor and Gray kept their friendship after everything that happened, and seeing Victor happy and wanting his friend to find happiness just pulled on my heartstrings like no other.
The ending of this book was perfect. The more I read M/M romance, the more I notice how rarely you see children in the story or epilogue. It’s often mentioned but I don’t always get to see it, so it just made me happy. Gray and Jonah are gonna be the best dads.
So excited for the next book, and the rest of this series.
