The Invocations by Krystal Sutherland
3.0
If you want to read a story with dark, witchy, “feminine rage” vibes (and you don’t mind a lot of body horror!!), then you should read this!
The mysterious, witchy aesthetic was very well done, the novel’s vibe was darkly alluring.
The characterisation, however, was my major issue with this book. At first, I really struggled to differentiate between the three narrative voices. They all sounded the same, particularly Emer and Jude. Once I could differentiate between the three, I found myself most interested in Emer and Zara’s chapters. Jude definitely had some great moments, but overall I didn’t love her character.
The plot twist was amazing, I did not see that coming at all!! And I did really enjoy the ending! Ultimately, I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as House of Hollow but it was still good.
