Theseus by Geraldine McCaughrean

This book was eloquently written, and fascinating from start to finish. It grabbed my attention from the first page and I felt a deep satisfaction when I got to the last page.

Theseus was an interesting character, where you don't pity or love him but you're just as curious to see what life had to offer for him. I loved that the book didn't glorify him, and instead highlighted all his flaws which spilled on to everyone who loves him, causing their misery. I was surprised to learn that he wasn't a demigod, which I thought he was. Or maybe this was another version of his birth. There were things I knew and also didn't know, which was great because this book wrote about them all. I can't express how much I enjoyed it.

It had everything you wanted in a Greek myth retelling. The facts and tales, the incredible characters and monsters, the prophecies, the births and deaths, and it had just the right sprinkle of humour that made it an even more enjoyable read. I loved this, I want a thousand books more by this author.
