Overall this collection was a 3.5 star like all anthologies hit has some great and some not so great stories.  The standouts are Sardonicus 4.5 star and Sagittarius 5 star.  These two stories were a great introduction to Ray Russell and his style they provide horror, gore and psychological torment however he does lack the nuance and subtlety of other horror and terror writers.  He is also a lot more explicit than most in this genre.  Also something to note these stories are not actually about haunted evil castles but the evil people do who happen to live, or once lived in castles.
