“Are the flaws of the main character(s) a main focus of the book?” Uh, if there is any book that puts the flaws of the main characters at its focus, it is this one. These people are terrible! But it was so smart and sharp and sad and funny. It really captured a lot about motherhood, especially queer motherhood, while also displaying just how slippery self-perception and memories are. The inclusion of single pages about the experience of strangers/side characters orbiting Sammie was so smart and really stretched the unreliable narrator trope to its most exhilarating potential. So much to love about this!
