Legendary by Stephanie Garber

5.0

I have to start with saying that this is an excellent series. I liked Caraval, but waited to read the second installation for a bit and had forgotten how well it was written. Picking up Legendary immediately threw me back into the world of the series, and reminded me how much I liked it in the first place.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the book centering around Tella's POV. I didn't love her character in the first book, or rather, felt less attached to her. Probably because the story was all about Scarlett's experience with Caraval. This time around though, the author did such an effective job at flipping the table and making you feel so invested in this book's main character and her experience with the game.

I LOVED the incorporation of the fates and the way real magic and "Caraval" magic were weaved throughout the plot. If the first book was more about the game and its illusions, this book was definitely more about the real magic. And they work so well together.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

I don't think I had completely thrown out the notion that Dante was Legend.... and yet, that reveal was so so good. I'm left wondering where the last book is going to take the story and I hope it focuses on both sisters equally.
