The Will of the Many by James Islington

5.0

Oh. My. God.
This was incredible!

Thank you to Text Publishing for sending me a copy of this! I’m sorry it took me so long to read but my god, I am so glad to have read this.

The Will of the Many is an epic fantasy/mystery/dark academia novel. We follow Vis as he’s adopted by the Telimus family and sent to Catenan Academy to uncover the dark secrets that the school is hiding. He tells everyone that he is an orphan, that he will gladly cede his Will once he graduates, that he will become a member of the elite society just like he’s expected to. But the reality is different. He has a complex and grief-filled past, and he will never cede his Will to the realm that killed his family. He must climb the ranks of the Academy and graduate top of his class. Because if he doesn’t, the rebel group who know his true identity will have no use for him. And if the Hierarchy or Academy find out who he really is, they will kill him.

I read this over three months. It is difficult to find a book, especially one that is over 600 pages long, that grabs your attention and holds it each time you pick it up. But this book did exactly that.

James Islington’s world-building is phenomenal. ‘The Hierarchy’ world is so complex and yet, Islington never once info dumps. He gives the reader small parts of the world, bit by bit, and trusts that his audience will put the pieces together. This world is also SO interesting! The amount of knowledge behind this story is clear; Islington has undoubtedly planned this world with precision and immense detail.

The characters in this novel were also amazing. Vis, in particular, is such a complex and engaging character. Having an epic fantasy from one POV was surprisingly refreshing. I felt like I truly had a deep understanding of Vis’s character, his belief system, his likes and dislikes, his needs.

You know when you’re reading a book and you can visibly picture it in film form? That’s how I feel about this book. I would LOVE if it was turned into a movie one day.

Also, the ending!!! SO GOOD! BUT I was also like, “WHAT!?!?”
I need the next book, in my hands, ASAP!
James Islington, you have done an incredible job with this novel.

@ everyone, please read this! You will not regret it!
