Piecing Me Together by Renée Watson
5.0
"Piecing Me Together" is the story of high school junior Jade, a Portland, OR native, and her journey of being in a scholarship program she feels she doesn't fit into. Jade is one of a few African-Americans at her private school and is there on full-scholarship as she lives in "The Villa". The story is about defining who you are and not letting other people define you. Also, Jade overcomes adversity as she is from a single-parent household living in poverty. I would recommend this book to use as a read-aloud or mighty girl text for 3-6th graders. For any students struggling with identity or maybe they don't fit in right away, this is the book for them.
