love love love. what a well crafted story, i think i might really like southern gothic!! thank you english class!
just some of my notes for my english class: the narration was so interesting how it would switch from objective to subjective and singular to plural "we" and "our"
i loved the imagery that faulkner evoked with the crumbling archaic mansion, and the smell of rot and mold
mood was so mysterious and chilling
Symbols: house--> antebellum South as an institution is crumbling and archaic, Emily--> descendent of Southern aristocracy fighting against change/time by not accpeting her fathers death and murdering, preserving, and sleeping with Homer's corpse.
Homer=Northerner and Emily is a Southerner, fight between north and south, Homer is not a traditionalist like Emily is and rejects her proposal (North rejecting South), murder is Souths retaliation against this "betrayal" and kills him, sleeping next to his corpse--> unstable mentality and clinging to unrealistic moral and ideals?
