Ophelia After All by Racquel Marie
5.0
What a delightful YA, coming-of-age, queer story!
Ophelia Rojas, named after the Hamlet character, has always known the kind of person she is: a good friend, a rose-gardener and lover, a girl who is always crushing on a boy.
Enter Talia Sanchez—the cute, shy girl at Ophelia’s school who makes Ophelia question everything she knows about herself. As the novel progresses, Ophelia realises that maybe it’s not just boys who she feels attraction to.
The friendship group in this novel were amazing. They were all multi-layered, three dimensional characters who you couldn’t help but love and feel connected to. Ophelia, in particular, was such a strong protagonist. Racquel Marie has done a fantastic job of writing believable characters dealing with believable struggles.
This book is also incredibly diverse, with a queer Cuban-Irish main character, a bisexual Afro-Puerto Rican side character, a Muslim Pakistani-American side character, a biromantic asexual Korean-American side character, and an aromantic side character.
This is a gem of a novel.
