Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

•This Duology was so fun - it was like a YA version of Oceans 11 meets Peaky Blinders!
•I did read the Shadow & Bone trilogy first which I think helped me understand the world & the Grisha powers, however I don’t think it’s entirely necessary to enjoy this Duology (I didn’t post a review but I wasn’t a big fan of S&B!)
•Six of Crows takes place 2 years after the events of Shadow & Bone but it’s in a different part of the world entirely - Ketterdam. It is about a group of misfits and miscreants who come together to perform a very high stakes heist. Book 2 picks up right where book 1 ends.
•The characters in these books are the shining star, they are written to perfection and you absolutely fall in love with each of them. I’ve heard people say this is one of the best found families and I 100% agree!
•I really was hoping these were going to be 5 stars for me, and I think on a reread they could be. I just felt like something was missing. I struggle a bit with YA at times, and especially with these books since it’s a darker setting and we’re dealing with a lot of adult topics (drugs, violence, gambling, etc.) so it felt like something of the scenes didn’t hit as hard because they were reserved due to it being YA. I honestly would love to see what these would be like if they were rewritten for an adult audience.
•overall I had a super fun time and I will think about these characters regularly!
