A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
Did not finish book.
DNF after about 40% I gave up.
The book itself isn't a bad book, it just is not my cup of tea, that is why I still give 2,5 stars, even though I gave up on it.
The focus is very much on the main character and her emotions. How she feels about her family, about being poor now, even though her family was wealthy when she was a little kid, her feelings for the fae, for hunting, being hungry, her two spoiled and almost evil sisters that she has to feed, ...
I never liked books that are just focused on emotions - I want things to happen, not pages of describing details of rooms (main character loves painting so lots of descriptions too), and how she feels about those.
In the over 100 pages I read there were two quick scenes that had some action in it, all the rest was dialogue or descriptions or above mentioned feelings. It was soooooo slow - it felt quite boring to me.
If you want a slow pace, a fairytale style and ab emotional take, this book might be perfect for you!
I was hoping for something a bit different (partly due to the German cover which features bow and arrow...), and couldn't get on with it.
Also some of the plot didn't really make a lot of sense to me. For punishment you either get killed, or you can choose to live a pampered in a rich house in a fairytale land, being fed and everything. What a punishment...
There is quite some sexual innuendo (and from other reviews I gather actual sex scenes later on) in this book - the main character for example frequently meets a boy she doesn't love in a barn for some "release" and when he announces he is going to get married soon she wonders if he will still meet up with her afterwards. Not what I would have expected from a YA book.
The lovestory hasn't really started as far as I read, but it is so very predictable already. Though that is quite usual in this kind of YA book, so I won't take a star for it - a lot of people seem to enjoy that.
