This book is ridiculous. Everything, from the dialect, to the frequent more mature parts, was ridiculous, but I nonetheless found that I really enjoyed it. The writing style is lovely, really beautiful in places, and the narrator is more amusingly, sardonically witty than he has any right to be. The characters are lovable, the book is intensely readable, the plot may be simple but it's still heartwarming and emotive, and the harder hitting themes are dealt with well. I read this immediately after A Hundred Years of Solitude and it was a stark u turn, but nonetheless I'd recommend this book as an easy, funny, heartwarming way to occupy a few hours. My biggest criticism was that there is simply too much sex - the plot is great, give me more! All in all, a good, if not perfect romance.
