Way too much purple prose, and two characters who are already insufferable and I'm only a chapter in. I struggle mightily with books where I can't find a character to connect with, and after I read through some reviews of this as well as the sequel, I don't think I'm going to find any characters to empathize with here. It also doesn't sound like the duology ends very well, which makes me even less inclined to continue.

My time is better spent elsewhere. I'll give the author another try with Masters of Death at some point.
