Endgame by Samuel Beckett
5.0
Well, that's one of the most depressing things I've ever read. Devastating doesn't do it justice. It reminds me of Salad Fingers, but with more philosophical musings and everyone is sane enough to realize just how fucked they are.
Everything feels dying in the Endgame. The characters, the world, the meager plot...nothingness catches up with us. Maybe we should spend our time on Earth trying to make each other happier, as much as possible?
I can't help but think also of Hawk's and the Log Woman's conversations in Twin Peaks The Return. We're so very confused about death, all of our ancestors grouped together couldn't stand against its indecipherable cruelty...
To me, this one was probably the best one yet. Just my opinion, but I think Endgame is possibly my favourite work by Beckett. But all of his other stuff has been really good so far, so I'm not trying to turn this into a competition or anything.
