A seemingly and mostly sweet romance that in now way gave notice or warning regarding the heavier topics and triggers that occur in it.
I very much adored this story, the description is incredibly apt, it had strong Hitch vibes and now I want to rewatch that movie.
One of my favorite aspects of this story was how friendships are depicted. Romances often push friendships to the side in favor of other aspects, but I love how Bri's friends were so supportive and there for her. I also really enjoyed how organic the relationship between Prince and Bri was. This was no way an instant love situation, but it shows a real and gentle blossoming which was so sweet to read.
This was an extremely informative read, I learned so much about the history of radio, mixing and Black music, topics that just get glossed over by the wonderful Texas education system.
Now in regards to the no warnings of heavier topics.
This book deals with issues relating to sexual assault, and there were NO TRIGGER WARNINGS. Nothing about this book would make you think "hmm better check storygraph for those warnings." I was so lucky one of my mutuals warned me about this, because if I had gone in blind and unprepared it would have sent me spiraling into a book slump immediately.
I would read other books by Ebony LaDelle, and I highly recommend this one. Please just look at the content warnings before you dive in.
