The Truth According to Ember by Danica Nava

4.0

I thought this was a really cute book. Admittedly, romance is not my typical genre; but I was intrigued by (and wanted to support) an Indigenous author writing a romance novel about an Indigenous woman.

The characters are believable and likable, though some of Ember's choices -- aka little white lies -- seem harder to reconcile than others. Like whyyyy would you
Spoiler not want to disclose your relationship with a coworker because it's against company policy, but then justify doing things you know are against company policy for a different co-worker who's blackmailing you?
That didn't quite add up for me. I also wasn't sure how to feel about
Spoiler their hotel room being double-booked--I get that it propelled the story given they were into each other, but could you imagine if they hadn't been??

Regardless, this book did a good job of creating a likable main character, building a believable connection between the main character and her romantic interest, and making the romantic interest multi-dimensional and worthy of Ember's desire.
