Journey to Munich by Jacqueline Winspear

5.0

"Journey to Munich" embraces history, the cold reality of what was,and weaves it into a happening narrative. Maisie's journey brings her into Germany in 1938, when Hitler's rising to power and the world can no longer ignore his actions after invading Austria. As a spy, she must consider what she can do versus what she would like to do. That means a lot of tough decisions. In the middle of all this, she begins to know this new her, the one others are still surprised about. The her that's not working undercover.

I don't want to give away too many spoilers because I think the book is worth reading. I was blown away by the clear history investigation, the emotional connection to the Interwar Era, and how mentally sound Maisie is when facing those decisions. I happened to grab the book by chance at the library thanks to my own connection to Germany. I'll definitely be reading the previous books and watch her grow throughout the lead up. Given the clear writing style and editing, it'll be worth the hard journey.
