I thought the concepts were incredibly neat and I loved the initial exploration of them and the first two characters that were introduced. Unfortunately a few tonal shifts happened in directions I wasn’t enjoying, and the focus moved away from the first protagonist which threw me off completely. Knowing this book ends with a cliffhanger and dealing with tonal whiplash, I lost interest.
