The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
5.0
For me, this is the book of books. Probably should not be reviewing it, though, since it was the first "real" book I ever read. My father bought it for me on my eighth birhday, along with Wild's fairytales. Obviously, it was a different edition, in a different language. It was the unabridged edition in greek. If you are going to read it,or have your child read it, make sure you get the whole story. You don't want to waste this wonderful book on a few carefully sanitized highlights. The plot, the characters, the words, all deserve better than this.
And I just got caught carried away. Never review what you love, won't come out right. Only thing to say is, if you are looking for a first "adult" book to give to your child, this is the one. There is no turning back after that. Thank you, dad.
