Rock the Casbah was required reading for a university course and I am so very thankful that it was brought to my attention. The book single-handedly managed to change all of my incorrect, preconceived stereotypes of Muslim and Islamic beliefs. This book should be read by all who are interested in the Arab Peninsula's uprisings of the last few years. It's important for Americans to step outside our ethnocentric and counter-factual viewpoints to see the world from a non-Western point of view.
