I have a thing for romances and smut. Kinky smut is not commonly found in the most popular books. So when I came across a comment on a series I decided not to read (because honestly it sounded like the books were crap) about how this and that author were the authors on erotica/dark romance/kinky smut, I thought to my buttons: why not?
Well, that comment was lying.
This is clearly porn with no plot (I mean, there is a plot, but it seems to be created to fit the smut, like an afterthought). It honestly reads like a porn film, I kid you not, even the actual "plot". And I was sort of prepared for it because the comment clearly stated this author writes erotica with the sexiest scenes, such chemistry, much wow. I would be okay with the porn film plot if the erotica was good. Except it's not. The descriptions are weird and weak, some scenes are hard to picture and it's truly unrealistic how the entire "story" develops. Every single one of these scenes is very short and with no build up. And this "oh, I must be so naughty and weird" one moment and "oh, this is just want I wanted" the next makes no sense. I don't understand how this can be the crème de la crème of erotica for so many people.
I understand some of these books are written with the intention of being a fast read & a fun way for people to be... active... after putting them down. But either make it a proper book with a well developed plot or just write a "novella" with less plot to develop. You can't have both.
And if you're wondering what the actual book is about up until 79% (which I reached because I skipped chapters of "plot"), you can just open the spoilers below.
The MC is the daughter of a politician. The story starts at her mother's funeral. If we know her age at that point I forgot (but you can figure it out with some maths lol). That day she meets four men that are private security to her & her father. The entire scene is feels very off to me, like the author is trying to set the scene of their chemistry right there, and I didn't enjoy it - her mother's funeral is hardly the place. Six years later our MC is thinking about her crappy boyfriend who basically uses her for political reasons - they look good on camera, she's well known in the media, etc, etc. Her father is running for the White House. The four men ALL are lusting after this 23 year old girl, but she's off limits because she's the client. The MC breaks up with her boyfriend. A lot of "steamy" scenes happen (not really steamy tbh). The men kind of merge, tbh, because there's little to distinguish them from besides name and certain characteristics (one character "never" smiles). One day, our MC is out and she is almost run over by a car. She is saved by one of the four security men, and for safety reasons the father asks the four of them to take her into hiding. They go to this freaking cabin in the woods with no heating, no warm water, a bathroom outside......... I can't even. In there, things start to become "steamy" between them. A lot of short one/two pages scenes happen (sometimes it's more like two to three paragraphs lol) between them all. I believe this is supposed to be a sort of reversed harem situation, so you get the gist. Then the men realise (after talking to all the contacts they have - off page, mind you) that it seems the attempt to kill her was actually orchestrated by her father, who also got a lot of sympathy votes back when his wife died. The men get very angry because the MC is "their girl" and they won't stand for the way her father treats her anymore - as if she's there for publicity only. They take her to one of the men's house, where an ex-girlfriend that literally talks, acts and dresses like a bimbo is waiting for them (because she wants her ex back who cheated on him, so she must be a bimbo OBVIOUSLY). Ensue a bit of drama because "oh, so you actually like her or what". Also ensues a lot of kinky scenes with three/four pages, with weak descriptions and her being passed from men to men, being very "sore", but liking the "pain" because it feels so good. There's also an*l sex with barely any preparation, even though the author tried to convince us there is some - there isn't, especially if she had never done it before lmao And at this point, when the four men were again looking into her father's plans I put the phone away and removed the book from my downloads. That's it.
