Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston

3.0

i read this in one day!! 3.5 stars, but rounding up to 4 feels too high.
i have many thoughts --
Everyone I know loved this, and I was a little disappointed?
I think, if I removed all my irl political thoughts, i'd like it more. i was bothered with the upholding of the monarchy as a system, as well as electoralism, the nepotism, the dismissals of colonialism. But I'm a radical, I knew I wouldn't like the politics going into it, as the premise is literally 'president's son and a prince.' It's got some sprinkles of social justice, but, like sprinkles, it's all for show and lacks much substance.

I liked almost everything else. The smut was a bit much for me, but to each their own. As someone who's super character-driven when it comes to fiction, I was a little disappointed by the overall lack of much character development and the shaping of the main characters as a whole. However, the twists and bends of the plot made up for it, and I enjoyed the overall dynamics of the relationships.
