Bloodmarked was one of my most anticipated sequels of 2022. I could not wait to jump back into the thick of it with Bree as she navigated the dichotomies of the Order and the Rootcrafters, aether and root, and the pulls of Nick and Selwyn. Bloodmarked gave me everything I wanted. It has a little bit of everything: adventure, mystery, romance, betrayal, unlikely allies, ancestral ghosts of all kinds… all perfectly balanced. Bree is as stubborn as ever, William as measured and as good a friend, Selwyn as infuriating — maybe even more so. Legendborn grabbed YA Fantasy and changed it, unequivocally proving that a discussion of deep-seated racism does not dampen magic, but gives us a full and challenging adventure. Bloodmarked solidifies this series as one of the new must-reads, taking Bree — the fiercest, most stubborn hero — to a whole other level.
