Blood Sugar by Sascha Rothchild
5.0
Meet Ruby Simon. She’s a Yale graduate and a therapist who cares deeply for her patients. The thirty-year old loves her family, especially her sister, cares about animals and lives a normal life in Miami Beach. And, yes, she’s also a murderer. Due to the clever writing of author Sascha Rothchild, Ruby is a surprisingly likeable character you’ll find yourself rooting for. When this highly entertaining story begins, Ruby’s first, rather shocking murder is detailed. Were her actions justified? Ruby sure thinks so. Then, moving to present day, Ruby is being questioned by a police detective about the death of her husband Jason, whom she loved deeply. She is adamant that she had nothing to do with his death.
Blood Sugar is an appealing and suspenseful psychological thriller with an unreliable narrator. It was a fast read that kept me guessing. Is Ruby a vigilante killer with a heart of gold? Or, is she a narcissistic psychopath? I thoroughly enjoyed finding out. And I loved the Miami locale, which is so well woven into the story. Fans of the genre, be sure to check this one out. Just don’t take it all too seriously.
Many thanks to Penguin Publishing Group | Putnam for the opportunity to read this engaging book in advance of its April 19, 2022 publication.
Rated 4.5 stars.
