The Deal by Elle Kennedy
5.0
Initially I was going to give this 4 stars - for some reason I'm always hesitant to give a NA book 5 stars (don't ask me why, I don't know myself). But thinking about it I realised I had to give this 5 stars. Definitely my favorite New Adult book I have read so far.
I loved both the main characters. Hannah was so strong. A few years prior to this she was raped at a party and while she has mostly recovered from it, it still left her scarred (obviously). It was so refreshing (not saying it was better or worse!) to read from someone who has recovered from that kind of trauma. When I hear rape, I immediately think of a victim and someone broken. But Hannah wasn't that. She said so herself, she's a survivor and while the rape still affects her, she's learning to move on.
And Garrett. Oh my god. I also loved him so much. The way he helped Hannah and took care of her when she needed it - melted my heart! I loved their friendship that developed before they actually got involved with each other.
Another thing I that stood out positively for me: there was no post-traumatic sex. (you know, when one character went through some trauma and then suddenly they're having sex with each other? ugh, cringe.) That seems to be a quite popular trope in NA and I'm always dreading that when I start a new book in that genre and I was so happy that wasn't the case with this book.
