I started my re-read right after finishing to start the year on a high note. I loved it just as much. I feel like I need to erase this series from my memory so that I'm not consumed by my anticipation for the next book.

This book was simply everything I wanted, and everything I didn't know I needed. The small questions we were left with at the end of the first book
Spoiler(for example, what was the significance of the Tricat medallion, or how did Mettore Indestor know that Ren was born on Azerais' Dream)
were not merely answered. The authors took these hints and constructed the most epic story they could possibly imagine. The amount of depth added to Nadezra's history and magic was incredibly impressive, and I appreciated how it expanded so seamlessly on the mythology we already knew. I still absolutely loved all the main characters, and I also loved learning more backstory from some of the side characters. I was nervous that the multiple secret identities would get in the way of the plot and character relationships, but it was the opposite. The angst was just so delicious! And it felt like the secrets were actually driving the plot forward and forcing the characters into action, not slowing things down. The main romance was adorable and I'm excited to see it blossom even more in the next book. The secondary romances were just as good. Once again, I loved how the themes of the book are just so deeply interwoven through all the world building, plot, and characters. These authors know exactly what they want to say and how they want to get there, without ever coming off as preachy. When I'm reading, I just know I can put my absolute trust in them and the journey they're taking me on. It's always the best feeling when you can lose yourself in a book like that. I can't wait for the last book to come out. Having read The Memoirs of Lady Trent, I know this series finale will be even more epic and high-stakes than the previous instalments. I'm just sorry I read the preview, it made me want to scream because of how shocked I was! I really didn't expect that cliffhanger, but I know the authors will make it up to me in the end.
