Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder

2.0

Animals are slaughtered in this book so don't read this if that disturbs you. A suburban mom turns into some kind of she-dog/werewolf at night sometimes, and killing animals with her mouth makes her feel great. Animal existence is closely related to the post-partum mindless childrearing-of-a toddler mom existence is a link the book is making here.
I thought this book would be lighter, zanier, but that was not at all what this was. This is a dark, violent book in which the main character, (mom of toddler) Nightbitch, says at one point that she needs violence. In this way it had serial killer overtones, which was not fun. I knew the animal violence that was coming, and coming, and I kept reading to see where this would go.

For a book about post-partum anger and mommy angst, I recommend [b:After Birth|20694773|After Birth|Elisa Albert|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1400845270l/20694773._SY75_.jpg|40014405]

The audio narrator for this was so wrong. This book needed a sultry, earthy, growly narration. This narrator sounded like a Disney princess. The book called for howling and gutteral sounds, which this narrator was incapable of. She sounded like a valley girl who yipped when she should have growled.
