JLA delivers another hit in the second installment of the “Flesh and Fire” series – the companion prequel to the “Blood and Ash” series.

The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill.

Nyktos’s and Sera’s story picks up where we left them in A Shadow in the Ember. After meeting with the Goddess of Wisdom and the Fates, it is believed that Sera’s destiny is to return the embers of life to their rightful owner, Nyktos. However, the means for transferring that power is a question that the Goddess and Fates cannot answer, and time is running out.

Being a vessel for the embers has forced Sera into the Culling. Sera is not equipped to survive the Culling as a mortal without the blood of a Primal and “sheer will powered by love.” If Sera dies before the embers are transferred, Illiseeum and the mortal realm will succumb to the Rot. With the weight of the realms hanging in the balance, can Nyktos find it in himself to love the person who was raised and trained to kill the Primal of Death?

What came first?

At the start of ALITF, we believe that the actions of the Flesh and Fire series were triggered by a deal the Primal of Death (Eythos) made with King Roderick Muriel to save the Kingdom of Lasania from the Rot. A deal that initiated the Harbinger prophecy that has guided the action of the Blood and Ash series. But what if it wasn’t the deal that prompted that prophecy? What if the prophecy was the catalyst for the deal?

The storylines converge.

Through each installment of the Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire universe, JLA offers further insight into the prophecy that both series' characters (and readers) have been trying to unravel. The tempo of ALITF mirrors that of books 1-4 from the Blood and Ash series – one step forward, three steps back. For each truth unearthed regarding the prophecy, what has been previously known or understood is called into question.

Those who have read the books in publication order will find an eerie sense of déjà vu reading ALITF. We’ve heard the cryptic language of the prophecy before. We know who the players are that will set the prophecy in motion. Or at least we thought we did. ALITF confirms that the battles and conflicts from previous books are only footnotes in the overall story of the B&A/F&F universe, setting up for an epic third and final act for both series.
