The County Fair Queen by Lance Lansdale

4.0

This book is a slow burn with a reality show, fake dating, childhood crushes and a big dash of Lance Lansdales unhinged-ness.

Phillip is a former boyband star and when his career needs a revival, it is decided that his life is going to be turned into a reality show. So coming back home to Tallulah to grand marshal the annual Muscadine Madness fair seems like a good idea. Because who doesn't love a comeback.

What he didn’t know heading back into town was that his childhood crush turned hate subject, Rivers, is Tallulah's mayor. What Phillips thought would be an easy visit back home becomes everything but that.
Because when the production team realizes that they have zero drama pending, they do as every respectable reality show would do! They decided to create their own mayhem and what better way to do that than the tried and proved “falling in love” plot. Que Phillip and Rivers working together to create love magic. Not like it is hard, it is rather too easy to be swept away in their feelings, but every love story has an end or does it? Both need to work hard for that HEA and not letting the past run the future.

This book is sweeter and less spicy than Lance's Murder Daddy Series but it still has that unhinged brand to it. I giggled like a maniac and just felt the true essence of Lance writing shining through. I don’t know how to explain it, it is just pure fun and sass mixed with tough life lessons and a smidge of hurt that somehow just makes sense.

It has a bit of everything; cute animals, older ladies with more sass then sense, a love story between 2 side characters that you just need to know more about. I mean it. I want Jordan and Preston’s story, even if it is just a short one at that.

Also the yoga easter egg, chefs kiss.
