Marrow Charm by Kristin Jacques

4.0

I received an ARC copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, but I liked Marrow Charm so much I ended up buying a copy for myself.

The book was engaging, despite a somewhat slow start and world-building. But when the action happened, it sucked the reader into the story and made it difficult to put the book down at all. I finished the story in just a few days.

The dystopian elements are severe, and some details quite revolting and horrific. Azzy, our heroine, is no-nonsense, brave, and pragmatic--I loved her. The other characters were just as interesting, and I liked family dynamics between Azzy, her brother Armin, and their guardian Bixby. I was particularly invested in her relationship with a wolf she rescued early in the novel and which in turn became a devoted companion to her in more ways than one.

Unfortunately, the book ends in a cliffhanger, and now I have to wait for the sequel.
