This was such a cozy fantasy read! I loved the idea of the story with it's forbidden magic. It was so well written and very imaginative. The world that has been built on the island of Caltrey is idyllic, cozy and small town! The various residents are all remarkable creatures! Kiela flees to Caltrey after an uprising in the city of Alyssium. She is a librarian and rescues some of the spellbooks to take with her as the library is burning. So she and her assistant Caz (a sentient spider plant) sail to Caltrey to set up their new life. I love all the characters. I found Kiela a little petulant and stubborn but she grew on me. My favourite was Caz though. He was just so charming. The novel is written in third person from Kiela's point of view. This was a fun novel and I recommend this one to you all!
