The Awakening by Kate Chopin

5.0

Reminiscent of Henry James, an author I can't help but loathe, unfortunately. Also reminded me of Woolf's Dalloway in how it portrays the midlife crisis of a wealthy woman through feminist lenses, but there is not stream of consciousness and the telling is a bit more conservative, stylistically speaking.

For said writing alone though, I feel like The Awakening is deserving of high praise. It's a very pleasant novel to read. It also happens to tell a good story on regret and paints a good picture of what such a crisis looks like when it's been cooked in an environment of pure peer pressure.

I found it a very remarkable novel that's endured very well the passing of time. Definitely recommended.
