2024 reread: I adored this just as much as the first time I read it. I think if I had to pick a favourite from the first four books that are out, this would be my clear winner. I can't say I am ready for W&T to be here, but at least now I can say I'm prepared.
I loved this instalment in the Stormlight Archives, it really was a character study on mental health and the complexities of war. I love Kal so much, he feels like a stronger version of Vin in a way, like all her traits were morphed into a more robust character, familiar but not. I have no issues with this book, I actually think the pacing was far better than books 2 and 3. I now will sit in agony while I wait for phase 1 to be complete with Book 5.
